Have you ever wanted to hand your iPhone to a child but were afraid they’ll accidentally dial your boss or send a text message of gibberish to your mother-in-law? The solution is simple: turn on Airplane Mode. This will prevent the iPhone from making calls or connecting to the Internet. It only takes two quick steps:
1. Tap the Settings icon:
2. Slide Airplane Mode to On:

Doesn’t work my 3yr old often plays with my iphone, he has even gone as far as to downloaded games which he enjoys to play. If I slide the airplane mode on he will still open the phone app, it will then say you need to turn off airplane mode “yes” or “no” he often hits yes which then allows him to make calls. I now have a sim lock so i can lock the phone but leave him to play with the apps, else i just pull the sim card out and let him run wild.
Apple please make something to make this a little easier for people who let their children play with the iphone a simple pin to open the phone app would suffice.
