The Appstand from Thunk is a $20 matte frame for your iPhone that turns it into a sort of picture frame. That’s it. Apparently if offers “full access to button controls and ports”, meaning it doesn’t cover the home button.

There’s no built-in charger or cable, so you still have to use your own. Reading over the list of functions, it doesn’t actually do anything that we can see. It’s a picture frame with an iPhone-shaped hole in the middle. We’re pretty sure you can match that functionality by popping down to your local store, buying an actual frame, and using an exacto knife to cut the slot for the iPhone yourself. Maybe we’re just missing something in this device.
Thunk, the company that makes the stand, is billing it as a way to show off your apps. We’ve included a full description after the jump, and maybe you can tell us if you’d drop $20 on this. Check out their video below:

Every iPhone case ever made is just plastic with a hole in it. This is a simple way to better access Apps when you’re not using your IPhone as, well, a phone. Yeah its simple – but I think its also smart. And the fact that it doesn’t come with a charging cable doesn’t matter. I charge my phone on my nightstand, cable just dangles there – with this I could slip my iPhone in, pick the clock feature, or let Pandora run til I drop off to sleep, and it can charge using my existing cable. Why pay for something I don’t need.

My iPhone sits on my desk at work all day with no purpose (with the majority of the time, plugged into my MacBook Pro). Set my iPhone into this guy while charging on my desk with a picture of my daughter…and instant picture frame! Compared to all of the iPhone accessories that I’ve bought for twice the price, this one actually makes sense! Love it.

Why not? I just spent $35 on an iPhone stand last week. It doesn’t really “do” anything either, except hold my phone. At least this is a cooler way of doing just that. I could have saved $15 if I waited till this came out. Grrrr….

I’d be concerned about being able to quickly answer phone calls, but it looks like it slips out easily enough.
I do like how there’s a hole for the camera even though there’s probably no reason to use the camera when its sitting the back of a picture frame. That’s attention to detail.

Well, it looks like I significantly underestimated how much interest people would have in this! Colour me surprised! It looks like you’ve come across something that people genuinely want. Congratulations, and good luck.
