The Audrey Charm Bezel Faceplate ($66) is a decorative frame for the iPhone 3G/3GS that features 127 handset Swarovksi crystals lining its rim. The bezel brings a lot of glitz and glamour in a minimal form factor, and it’s also well-built—its frame consisting of strong, polished metal.

The Audrey Charm Bezel is all about looks, and in this area it doesn’t disappoint. The metal frame has a nice chrome finish that matches the iPhone’s default chrome framing. But what ultimately catches the eye are the Swarovski crystals that line the front rim. I’m not an expert on crystals, but these sparkle and catch the light and shouldn’t disappoint those who know that a diamond is a girl’s best friend. The crystals are slightly inset from the rim and feel solidly placed.

We liked the bezel’s small profile and how it maintains the original feel of the iPhone. On the flip side, it doesn’t protect the iPhone or serve any functional role other than to look good. But I have a feeling that’s enough for those interested in this type of accessory.

For those who want to add additional bling, there are two small holes in the bottom corner in which to string a charm or trinket through.

To apply the bezel, you simply slide the iPhone into it. It takes a little effort, as the bezel fits snug. But on the otherhand, this snugness means the iPhone won’t accidently slip out. In a nice design touch, the inner part of the metal bezel is lined with soft rubber that prevents the iPhone from being scratched.
The Audrey Charm Bezel does have one major flaw. The bezel’s rim rises above the iPhone’s screen approximately 1-cm. This has the effect of interfering with the ability to touch the corners of the iPhone’s screen. Particularly troubling was that I found it uncomfortable to type the letters P and Q, as part of my finger was obstructed by the rim. The iPhone’s touchscreen keyboard doesn’t need any help in being frustrating.

Conclusion:
The Audrey Charm Bezel, with its 127 shining Swarovski crystals, is a glamorous indulgence for your iPhone. Beneath the glitz is a strong metal frame and should dispel any concern you’re buying a cheap plastic product. We take some issue with the height of the bezel’s rim, as it slightly interferes with typing certain characters. But overall, it deserves a recommendation as a premium iPhone accessory.
