Just days after a Consumer Reports survey found that AT&T Wireless ranked last in customer satisfaction, AT&T has released AT&T Mark the Spot (free, iTunes link), an app that allows iPhone users to report network problems like dropped calls, no coverage, or data service failure. The app utilizes the iPhone’s GPS so that AT&T can get an exact location for where the problems occur.

From the official app description:
AT&T Mark the Spot is an application that provides customers a means to provide feedback on network user experience to AT&T.
Features
- Simplicity of operation
- Submit a real time report capturing local GPS coordinates at time and place of event
- Submit a report after the fact when a customer is not at the place of event
- Submit a report of dropped call, failed call, lack of coverage, data service failure, or poor voice quality
- Submit optional specific comments about an event
- Receive an SMS acknowledgement that the reported event was sent and received successfully
AT&T is committed to providing its customers with the best network experience possible.
This application will help contribute towards this goal and its utilization is greatly appreciated.
AT&T Mark the Spot is a free download in the iTunes App Store.

ok, it is back. maybe a version change blackout just when i tried last night — i note it’s now 1.0.1.
nice app, not sure why it’s being seen as lame on tuaw.com, it is a positive step for AT&T, as far as i’m concerned.

It can only help—if AT&T follows it up with action, that is. I think it’s a smart move for AT&T to crowdsource identifying problem areas.

What crap!!! So I drop a call and go to this stupid app which doesn’t work BECAUSE I HAVE NO SERVICE!!!
AT&T is doomed and Apple will be passed by all the new smartphones coming out now.
I love my mac and I even love my iphone but I’m paying an early termination fee to escape AT&T’s horrible service.
This debacle has changed my view radically on Apple.
