Apple’s purchase of music provider Lala Media for a reported $82 million could mean iTunes users will soon be able to store their media online and stream it to any computer or device with a connection to the Internet.
Lala media was an online service that, among other things, lets you purchase music for 10-cents per song and then stream that music to any device that supports flash streaming.
Apple’s move leaves many to wonder if they’re thinking of heading that way themselves. Today, the Wall Street Journal reported that Apple is rebooting iTunes to be fully accessible in a web browser. Users would no longer need to run iTunes as separate software, but rather in a browser. The concept of desktop software moving into browser window is the basis behind Google’s new Chrome OS.
