Frequent travelers should be glad to see the Kayak Flight and Hotel Search (free, iTunes link) 2.0 update arrive in the App Store. The app offers iPhone-friendly access to Kayak.com, the travel search engine that aggregates information from multiple travel sites and helps find the lowest price. With the app, you can search for prices on plane tickets, hotel rooms, and rental cars, as well as see some other neat information like price trends.
Even though Kayak already has a mobile version of their website, the app is much easier to navigate than trying to use the iPhone’s browser. In fact, the simplified interface might even be quicker than using the regular website, although extra steps are required to refine your results for things like number of stops and time of day.
However, we can’t recommend the app in its current state, as it’s extremely buggy. When I tried to purchase tickets, tapping the “Call to Book Now” button repeatedly did nothing. The app also constantly hung and crashed on me. But once they get bugs ironed out, it could be a useful tool for travelers. We recommended downloading, then watch for an update.
