Lost in the hype of the new iPhone 3G and avalanche of new apps is a basic feature upgrade to iPhone’s email app: the ability to delete multiple emails at the same time. This one was a long time coming.
So how do you do it? While viewing your Inbox or any other email folder, just tap the Edit button in the top right corner of the screen.
Next, you’ll see small circles appear on the left of each email. Tap any emails you want to delete, the circles will fill in with red. Then, hit the delete button on the bottom left corner.
Hold on a second though, like most email clients, your email hasn’t been truly deleted. They’ve been sent to the Trash folder. To truly delete them, you can navigate to the Trash folder, then select Delete All. If you don’t do this, the iPhone will automatically delete the emails after a period of time. The default setting is one week, but you can change that in the iPhone’s Settings. In Settings, navigate to the mail settings, then the email account you want to change. Select the Advanced tab, and you’ll see Deleted Messages in the middle of the page. Select your deletion frequency, and you’re all set.
