iHome Announces Three New iPhone Clock Radios

iHome, creators of many iPhone dock/speaker combos, has introduced three upcoming new clock radios to their lineup:

iP90 Clock Radio/Audio System for iPod/iPhone, shown above, is an update of the company’s flagship clock-radio and will cost you $99. The coolest feature? You can sync the time with your iPhone, so you don’t have to set it independently on the dock. Just hit a button, it reads it from the phone, and you’re away.

iP39 Kitchen Timer and FM Alarm Clock Radio Speaker System for iPod/iPhone with USB Charging is designed for the kitchen, so it is easy to clean with button membranes and a retractable docking station to prevent water damage. No pictures yet, but it’s apparently “designed with the look and feel of a premium kitchen appliance with stainless steel accents”. It has an alarm clock radio, and dual bake timer, in addition to standard iPhone speaker abilities.

The iP42 Dual Alarm Clock Radio for iPod/iPhone (above), with its small profile, is meant for space savers. With similar features as the iP90, it can also sync with your phone to get the correct time and features two independent alarm functions for couples who need to wake up at different times.

Apple Black Friday Deals: Take Two

As usual, there are a lot of rumors and speculation swirling around Apple’s discounts for Black Friday. As we reported last week, a leaked circular showed various discounts on iPods and Apple computers, but a new circular makes the potential deals even more interesting. No one knows if this is the real Apple Black Friday circular, but Boy Genius Report — the source of the leaked circular — is pretty confident in their source.

Surprisingly, the Apple Black Friday deals uncovered by Boy Genius Report are for Apple.com, not the actual Apple stores. If true, here’s what iPhone owners can expect at Apple.com on Black Friday.

Belkin TuneCast Auto

Belkin TuneCast AutoThe rumors have Apple.com selling the Belkin TuneCast Auto, an iPhone accessory that transmits music to your car’s FM stereo, for $48. The TuneCast Auto includes ClearScan functionality, so you don’t have to constantly seek out clear FM stations. The Belkin TuneCast Auto, which is ‘Works with iPhone’ certified, normally sells at Apple.com for $69.95.

Bottom line: Good deal. You can find the Belkin TuneCast Auto for $49 at various online retailers, so $48 is certainly competitive. Buyer beware though — the Belkin TuneCast Auto gets two-star ratings at Amazon.com and the Apple Store.

Mophie Juice Pack Air for iPhone

Mophie Juice Pack The Mophie Juice Pack claims to be the “world’s thinnest rechargeable external battery concealed inside of a protective form.” It’s designed to protect your iPhone like a regular case, while providing twice the battery life of the iPhone’s built-in battery. The mophie Juice Pack Air is normally sold at Apple.com for $79.95 and the rumored Black Friday circular has it priced at $58.

Bottom line: Fantastic deal. Nearly every online retailer has the Mophie Juice Pack Air priced around $80, so $58 would be a steal. Like the Belkin TuneCast Auto, it doesn’t get rave reviews at Amazon.com.

iHome iP88 Dual Dock Clock Radio Speaker

iHome ip88Normally $149.95, the rumored Apple Black Friday circular has the iHome iP88 clock radio priced at $108. The clock radio provides two docks so you can charge your iPod and iPhone simultaneously and play music from either. Other features include three alarms, Time Sync functionality and an included remote.

Bottom line: Great deal. The cheapest price I found online was $119.99 at J&R, so $108 is not a shabby price for this iPhone clock radio.

Other deals on the rumored Apple Black Friday circular include the iPod touch from $178 to $358, iMacs from $1,098 to $1,898 and MacBook Pros for $1,098 to $2,448. So do you think these are the real deal? Some of the discounts seem pretty generous — especially for Apple — so we’ll have to wait and see what Black Friday brings.

Rise&Shine: Free Clock App With Weather

Rise and Shine Free iPhone Clock

Rise&Shine (iTunes link) is an excellent free clock app for the iPhone. It’s the only free clock I’ve seen that shows you the weather too. There’s no need to enter in a zip code–the app uses the iPhone’s GPS to pull down local weather.

Rise and Shine Flip Clock

The app has three visual themes: reflection, flip clock, and digital. It has both a portrait and landscape orientation view.

Rise and Shine Weather Forecast

The current temperature is displayed in the bottom left corner along with a graphic symbolizing current conditions and the day’s forecasted hi/lo temps. Tapping the weather brings up an extended forecast. Unfortunately, the app doesn’t have an alarm clock feature.

Rise&Shine is a free download in the iTunes App Store.

CandyClock: Clock With Video Backgrounds

CandyClock App for iPhone and iPod Touch

I’ve been searching for a cool clock for my old first-gen iPhone that is retired (it’s currently doing double duty as a Skype phone and a desk clock). A few weeks ago, we found 4 excellent free clock apps, but now I’ve come across CandyClock ($0.99, iTunes link), which has video backgrounds. Check out our video below for a closer look:

There are 8 video backgrounds to choose from (all 8 are available for widescreen mode, but only 6 for portrait). The videos loop seamlessly, with the time shown in a minimalistic but visible white font in the foreground. There are options to set an alarm, launch with a random background, show the date, and use a 24-hour time format. You can also dim the screen with a tap. The alarm has a snooze button if you want to use it as your morning alarm clock.

CandyClock is a 99-cent download from the iTunes App Store. There is also a free lite version with one background.

4 Free Clock Apps for the iPhone

I’ve been looking for a good iPhone clock app. My old first-gen iPhone pretty much sits in a dock on my desk all day because I’ve decided to use it as a Skype phone. Why not use it as a desk clock too?

A good iPhone clock app disables the iPhone’s auto lock, so as long as you have it plugged in, it will always display the time without going to sleep. After searching through the hundreds of clock apps in the store (most costing $0.99 or more) and testing out dozens, I found these four excellent free apps.

Naver Clock

NaverClock (free, iTunes link) is a cool flip clock for the iPhone. The app has an flipping animation for the turning of every minute and hour. It also conveniently displays a monthly calendar. There is an option to set an alarm for those who want to use their iPhone as an alarm clock. The only problem with that app is that settings are all in Japanese Korean.

Free Digital Clock

Free Digital Clock (free, iTunes link) is very basic clock app that shows time (including seconds), date, and day of the week. There is no alarm, but there are settings that allow you to change the color of the clock to just about any color.

Theme Clock

Theme Clock (free, iTunes link) features 9 different styles of digital clock to choose from. There are settings for a 24-hour clock, show weekday, show date, dimmer, show iPhone status bar, and auto-lock.

Note: The clock launches stuck in landscape. To get it in portrait mode, I had to rotate the iPhone a few times.

White Clocks

White Clocks (free, iTunes link) is an analog style clock featuring 16 clock faces to choose from. There are settings to show the date, disable auto lock, and to randomly choose a clock face upon launching. A downside is that none of the clock faces feature numbers.

*Update 9/19/2009* Also check out Rise&Shine, another free iPhone clock with weather.
