*Update* In a new video, Rose is now stating that MMS is coming to the iPhone.

Kevin Rose is at it again by dropping some new iPhone rumors concerning the iPhone 3.0 software update. Rose filled in the audience during the recording of his web show, Diggnation, at South by Southwest in Austin, Texas.

The web entrepreneur cited a source who “was right before” with previous iPhone details, stating that copy and paste was finally coming to the iPhone. The method will involve double tapping the screen, which will bring up a bubble similar to the magnifying glass. You will have a choice to either copy, cut, or paste. Copy and cut will be achieved by dragging two quotation marks to encompass the text you want to copy or cut.

Upon hearing Rose’s copy & paste rumor, cohost Alex Albrecht quipped “leave it to Apple to get us excited about something that should have been a f****ing 1.0.”

Rose then went on to state that no MMS (*update* Kevin actually says he didn’t hear anything about MMS), no background apps, and no video recording was coming to the iPhone, although background apps “will happen” eventually. The source told him that Apple is having a problem with video recording on the iPhone, stating:

It’s a technical problem though, uh, apparently they have this NAND memory, and if they write to this NAND memory too many times and too fast it messes the phone up. So, in future releases, guys, not this one.

Rose also stated that, besides copy and paste, the source said the update would bring the iPhone “up to speed with all the Palm Pre stuff, so everything that the Palm Pre thought they had on Apple has now gone away.” Rose also mentioned the word “multitasking” before stopping himself and continuing to talk in more general terms about the Palm Pre.

As to what exactly the Palm Pre has that the iPhone doesn’t is still relatively unclear since the Palm Pre has not been released to the public yet. According to Gizmodo, the three biggest Palm Pre software features currently missing on the iPhone are multitasking, copy and paste, and a different kind of web integration that pulls together your online world, allowing you to assign things like Facebook accounts, email addresses, and phone numbers to a contact, and then view the emails, text messages, Facebook messages, and instant messages from that contact all in one window.

Kevin Rose Debuts Video-Recording Qik iPhone App

Web entrepreneur Kevin Rose, creator of Digg.com and Revision3, has gotten his hands on an early beta version of the Qik iPhone app. Qik.com is a website that records live video streams sent from mobile phones and other Internet-connected devices. Basically, if you’re out on the town, you can turn your life into a YouTube reality show, except it’s on Qik.com.

The app has not been approved yet in the app store. Whether Apple will approve a video recording app is very questionable, as it would seem logical that others would have tried by now and not succeeded.

Video recorded with the Qik app does not save locally. It requires a 3G or WiFi connection to save the data to Qik’s servers. It also supports live chat and GPS location to tag your videos. One cool feature is that you can tell it to reveal only a certain level of your location, for instance, only the name of the city you’re currently in.

*1-04-09 Update* Qik Live is now available in the App Store as a free download.
