Well, having been a Mac user for more than 20 years, I'm familiar with most things. I followed these instructions and they work perfectly.... EXCEPT... even though the new ringtone shows up on my iPhone and even though it PLAYS when I select it as a ringtone for a caller... when the actual caller calls, the DEFAULT tone rings. I have now tried this at least 6 times... no luck. The ringtone is on my iPhone and it PLAYS on my iPhone until someone actually calls, and then my phone rings default. Also the idea of a "Ringtone" playlist is impossible, as the ringtone cannot be dragged into a playlist. For those for whom this works, you are either lucky, have an older version of iTunes, have an older version of iPhone, or some combination of these. I have the newest iPhone (3 days old) and absolutely up-to-date software and this does not work.

ok guys, I had 3.1.2 working with all apps on my iphone 3GS. Then one app started to crash out after 5 secs. Then I was loading over some music from itunes (linked to a MAC) and since then, all apps crashed. The fix for me was to delete the last free apps that I had downloaded and then download a new free (anyone will do that you havent installed before) and now everything is working again. I advise doing this before the whole restore thing. I do not have jailbreak.

Hope that helps

I would buy an iphone right now if it was through Verizon. My contract is up with Verizon in June and Im debating if I should change to AT&T. Has anyone heard about Apple signing a contract with Verizon?

Okay, i have an iPhone 2g from past use. But am now in the middle of a contract with at&t on another phone. I am able to take out the slot for the sim card and put the sim card from the new phone into the iPhone. But i'm wondering if when i go to iTunes to activate what happens with my new phone? Do I continue paying for both plans? What happens with my "new phone" plan?

The best phone has to be, at a minimum, usable. It needs to:

1) Have reliably available 3G service (not Apple);

2) Be able to make, receive and hold on to phone calls without persistent dropped calls (not Apple);

3) Serve as a reliable communications tool in major cities (New York, San Francisco) and major events (SXSW) without collapsing under the strain of the network (not Apple).

Right now, Apple cannot claim to have the best phone, or even a very good phone. It's a cute iPod and little games device, but as a phone, it sucks.

Let's not even get into its insistence on avoiding open standards like Flash -- a bit like Apple banning the English language and forcing everyone to browse in Esparanto.
