The VModa newest ones have a metal headphone jack connector with the wire coming out of the side in a rubber flexible gasket. If you get ones which come straight out the top, you have the old ones which shorted out all the time....

This thing truly sucks. First, sound quality is very, very bad - XM or FM quality at best, and actually worse. I'm picky about sound, but my wife is not, and she doesn't mind the compressed sound of XM, but she noticed the awful sound of Simplify immediately. Second, it doesn't want to stream entire songs, and that's only when it feels like displaying my entire collection. And then it will randomly NOT show parts of the collection that were just there a moment ago, but if you close out, go back in, let it reload, things will be there that were not there (and vice versa.) Very sloppy app, very disappointing performance and sound quality. Pass on this one.

Jim, the iPhone doesn't offer a complete removal of SMS alerts, just the one stated in the article above. If you're desperate enough, you could "jailbreak" the phone with a free program like Installer.app and pay for a third-party application like the ones suggested by #1.

Apple will be implementing a notification system for apps like AIM that behave much like alerts for SMS, missed calls, and voice mail. So there's a chance they will add more settings for all alerts, maybe even completely turning off all alerts.

The notification system has been seeded to developers in a recent updated iPhone SDK. This means it's likely to come to the iPhone in the next couple of months. Keep your fingers crossed.
