You can add prefixes (Dr, Mr, Mrs, Ms), suffixes (Jr, III), middle names, and other information to any iPhone contact. To do this, there’s a special option called Add Field. The option can be hard to find though. Here are instructions on how to find it and how to add prefixes, etc, to contacts:
1. Open the Contacts or Phone app:

2. Select a contact from the list by tapping his or her name once.
3. Tap Edit in the top right corner:

4. Scroll down through the tabs and select Add Field (it won’t be immediately visible. Scroll down by swiping upward):

5. You’ll see a list of fields. Tap any of the fields to add that type of information to your contact:

6. Enter text into the field and tap Save:

7. If you want to add more information, repeat steps 4-6. Otherwise, tap Done to finish:

And that’s it. Check out all our posts on iPhone Tips and iPhone Basics.
Thanks for the article… its all good and I discovered this a while ago myself, but what frustrates me is that if a contact has more than one/two mobile numbers your buggered and can seemingly only use One Mobile field on the iPhone. Any advice????
When you add a mobile number, the contacts app gives you an extra line for an iPhone number. If you tap where is says ‘iPhone” then it gives you a list one of which is “mobile”. tap this and then you can enter another mobile number. I don’t know if there is a limit but it certainly works for 3. I’m on iOS 4.1 so I can’t check if this is a recent feature but I think it was there in V3.
In a similar way you can add more than one home number, work number and fax and pager numbers etc. etc.
is there a way to add these fields to ALL of your contacts at once (as opposed to doing them each individulally?
Unfortunately, you can’t.
Is there a way to get the iphone NOT to show prefixes, suffixes, etc. I would love to see just the name. I like the pre- and suffixes in my Outlook file, however.
Hmm, have you tried manually deleting them on the iPhone? Just be careful, as I’ve never synced the iPhone with Outlook contacts, so I don’t know if deleting the prefixes, etc, will transfer the deletion over to Outlook.
Thanks, Alan, but that deletes it from the Outlook file when you sync.
I would like to know how to add customized label in the ” add field ” apart from the predefined ones.
In brief i want to define it myself like “University Name, Specialization,” etc instead of predefined “Prefix, Suffix,” etc
Than You in advance
